Michael is an articling student supporting the firm’s litigation, negotiation and advisory services. Michael is a recent JD graduate from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. He first came to Westaway as an intern in 2019.
Michael developed an affinity for Family Law during his legal studies and took home First Place Team at the 2020 Walsh Family Law Negotiation competition.
Prior to attending law school, Michael completed a master’s degree at the University of Ottawa. His publications include academic articles analyzing Food Security practices in rural and remote First Nation communities. His thesis focused on land-based food initiatives in rural and remote Indigenous communities. Michael also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Aboriginal Studies.
During his studies, Michael was an award-winning Varsity Football player for the uOttawa Gee Gees. His interests in sport and Indigenous rights led to his summer job implementing and coaching youth football programs in the James Bay Cree Nations of Chisasibi and Mistissini.
When not at work, you will find Michael outdoors either hiking, canoeing or camping with his two dogs.
